Creating the Context

The first rule that a historical novel must follow is historical accuracy. These are the two major periods I know best and will talk about most often.

Blog articles are divided into broad thematic areas defined by tags. Each of these encompasses more periods. An example? Under the tag “Daily Life,” you will find articles on daily life in ancient Rome as well as in the 20th century.

Another rule: never copy the historical context from other novels or movies, unless one wants to copy their errors as well. Anyway. how has the past been represented in works of fiction? Are there recurring anachronisms or stereotypes? Let’s examine them together.

Once you’ve identified the periods and relevant thematic areas, it’s time to begin with actual historical research. How do you select sources? What elements should you pay attention to when reading an ancient text? Where can you find papers on historical topics? These are just some of the questions to start from.
